Experience

My name is Jill and I love to teach. I am currently teaching 5th grade math in St. Tammany Parish. I have been a teacher for six years, and could not imagine doing anything else. I graduated with a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Texas Tech University. I graduated with my MA in History from Southeastern Louisiana University. I am currently pursuing my second MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. I will complete my degree in December. I've tutored for over 9 years. I take creative writing classes to keep myself always writing, because that is my one other passion besides teaching. I am certified to teach 1st-5th, but I have also taught college history classes and tutored college English. I strive to always stay current in teaching strategies and the requirements placed on all students. I stay current on the changes with the SAT and ACT tests, and have helped several students bring up their scores in English, Writing, and Vocabulary. As a teacher, I have taught all kinds of learners and am very adaptable in creating ways to engage students. I must work just as hard as them to make sure I am doing my job as teacher. I am a hands on teacher and enjoy creating fun activities for my students to learn. If I can't sit through a two-hour boring meeting without getting distracted, I can't expect a child to. I will work until I find a way to help my students learn. After all, I became a teacher to help students.

Hobbies

I am a member of the Bayou's Writer Club, and participate in their quarterly readings. I serve as a member on the board for the writers club. We discuss how to improve our meetings and what subjects we will discuss at meetings. The club helps aspiring authors improve their writing skills. I volunteer for as many activities as possible at my school. This gives me a chance to know my students. I spend as much time on the water as possible either boating, fishing, or jet skiing. I also enjoy reading and traveling. I love music, and create songs for my students to sing. These songs contain words that will help my students remember math facts that they have problems remembering. I love a classroom that is fun and vibrant so I am constantly attending conferences to improve my teaching skills.
